The minister of the presidency, Antonio Palocci, has announced that
at least five key Brazilian airports will be privatised in the coming months.
The government's decision follows the publication of a study by the Instituto de
Pesquisas Econômicas Aplicadas (Ipea) claiming that the necessary refurbishments
in nine of 13 airports in host cities of the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 will
not be ready on time. The Sindicato Nacional das Empresas Aeroviárias (Snea),
which represents all Brazilian airlines, however, still expects “complete chaos"
in Brazilian airports during the event because, even if they are refurbished on
time, most airports will have exceeded their capacity as the number of air
passengers in Brazil continues to grow. End of preview - This article contains approximately 622 words.
